When you have a chat with your friend about Switzerland, the topic is usually about their brillant engineering, their tasty cheese or chocolate, but what about Cycling?

When you combine Switzerland and Cycling, the first thing thats comes to mind would probably be Fabian Cancellara, the Swiss Spartan, one of the most emblematic cyclists to date, who has won some of the most iconic bike races in the world (3 times Paris-Roubaix, 3 times Tour of Flanders and 4 times ITT World Champion.

Then, the Tour of Switzerland and Tour de Romandie should come second as theses races are the 2 major stage races in Switzerland and the world.

But what if we asked you if you knew about the hidden treasures of the Furka, Sanetch or even Albula passes?

The APEX Crew will be waiting you at the arrival gate at the airport of Geneva. Bikes will be built ready for riding after the transfer.

Depending of the timing between transfer and flight, we would go on a small ride to check if everything is going smoothly.

Starting our day in France on the shore of the Lake Léman, the first part will be pretty flat. Then, we'll be facing the Sanetsch, a titanic climb ! 24 km, 1692 meters ascension, 6.9% average and a summit at 2230 meters. The stats are comparable to the classic Stelio, at the difference that the climb is a dead end.

Since this is a dead end, the traffic is very low, almost non-existent, making your ascent very relaxed. On reaching 2,000 meters in altitude, you’ll have to take a narrow, dark and wet tunnel of 800 meters. The first few meters are done in complete darknes until the motion-detect lights switch on.

Yes, this Switzerland ! Brillant !

Once you reach the top, keep riding 5 kilometers, slightly downhill until you reach the beautiful dam. Once you reach it, this will be the end of the road.

Key Climb : Col Sanetsch

Col des Mosses is a pretty easy and steady climb, compare to the brutal Col de la Croix ! 22.5km long and 1345 meters ascension, a very serious climb !

The climb could be divided into 5 specifics sections. The first one sets the average difficulty with many sections over 10%. Between Gryon and Villars-sur-Ollon, the gradient becomes much more easier, which decline the overall gradient drastically. While leaving Villars, you’ll face a wall just before an other flatter section. The last 4 kilometers ramp is a steady and twisty road that will take you up 1,776 meters altitude.

The Col de la Croix will put yourself in the "Hurt Box" quite a few times, but the view over the Rhone Valley and the Diableret is worth it.

After a short transfer by car, our 3rd ride will hit very early Grosse Scheidegg. The most scenic part of the Grosse Scheidegg is the west side, starting in the small village of Grindelwald. The road is closed to all vehicles, expected for the local bus, and therefore, is very quiet. The pass becomes stepper after the first half and the average percent won’t go under 10%. A truly epic climb !

After a nice downhill, Susten Pass will be waiting us. There are virtually no traffic and the road comes through numbers of small tunnels (more than 10). As you make your way up, the view becomes more and more beautiful. Even in the middle of summer, you could find yourself riding between wall of snow at the very top of the pass.

Key Climb : Grosse Scheidegg • Susten Pass

For those who are looking for extra miles, we'll skip the car transfer and leave the hotel an hour earlier. After a short climb to Schonried, we'll have a 40 kilometers downhill to the crystal blue Lake of Thun, where the rest of the group will rejoin us.

Ultimade ride of our Swiss Journey riding the Albula and Umbrail, the highest Swiss pass.

Starting from Filisur, Albula is a long and beautiful climb, never too step or too difficult, that goes through several typical swiss village. The most gorgeous section is probably the section that goes under the Albula Railway bridges, which are listed to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, right after Bergün.

Passo Umbrail is the highest Switzerland pass with just over 2,500 meters altitude, and at his top the natural border between Switzerland and Italy. This is one of the three way, undoubtedly the lesser know and lesser crowded, to get to the top of the Stelvio,one of the most iconic climb of Europe.
